#01 “Responsible for…” as a bullet opener

This is the most common CV mistake and the one that signals mediocrity fastest. “Responsible for managing a team of 8” tells me you were given a job — not that you did it well. Recruiters skip these bullets entirely.

The fix

Replace with action + context + result. “Led a team of 8 through a system migration, delivering 3 weeks ahead of schedule.” That is a bullet point. The other one is a job description.

#18 Keywords that don’t match the job description

ATS systems score your CV against the job description word for word. If the job says “stakeholder management” and your CV says “managed relationships with key partners,” many systems will not match them. Same concept. Wrong keyword.
